Image Compressor & Resizer

Shrink an image's file size or resize it, in your browser.

What this tool does

Shrinks an image's file size by re-encoding it at a lower quality, resizing its dimensions, or both — useful before uploading to a site with a size limit, attaching to an email, or just speeding up a page that's loading a huge photo.

Runs entirely in your browser using the canvas API — your image is never uploaded anywhere.

How to use this tool

1Upload an image (JPEG, PNG, WebP, or most other common formats).
2Pick an output format and, for JPEG/WebP, a quality level.
3Optionally set a max width to resize it down.
4Click Compress, then download the result.

Choosing a format

  • JPEG — best for photos; smaller files at a quality trade-off
  • WebP — usually smaller than JPEG at the same visual quality, supported by all modern browsers
  • PNG — lossless, best for screenshots/graphics with sharp edges or transparency; quality doesn't reduce its size, only resizing does

FAQ

Will this reduce quality I can see?
At 80% quality (the default) most photos look visually identical while dropping significantly in file size. Lower it further for smaller files at the cost of visible compression artifacts.
Why did converting my photo to PNG make it bigger, not smaller?
This is expected, not a bug — PNG is lossless, so it can't compress photographic detail the way JPEG or WebP can. Converting a photo to PNG often produces a larger file, sometimes several times larger. PNG is the right choice for screenshots and flat-color graphics, not photos — for a photo, pick JPEG or WebP instead.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to or saved on our servers.
