QR Code Generator

Turn any text or URL into a scannable QR code, instantly.

Enter text to generate a QR code

What this tool does

Turns any text or URL into a scannable QR code, generated instantly as you type. Useful for putting a link on a printed flyer, business card, poster, menu, or packaging without anyone having to type it out.

The code is generated in your browser and downloaded straight to your device — nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use this tool

1Type or paste the text or URL you want to encode — the QR code updates as you type.
2For a link, include the full address with https:// so it opens directly when scanned.
3Click Download PNG to save the image.
4Drop it into your design or document, and test it with a phone camera before printing.

What a QR code can hold

A QR code stores data as a grid of black and white squares. The more you encode, the denser that grid gets and the harder it is to scan from a distance or at small sizes. In practice:

  • A typical URL (under ~70 characters) produces a clean, easy-to-scan code — this is the ideal use.
  • QR codes can technically hold a few thousand characters, but anything that long scans poorly.
  • The code includes error correction, so it still scans with a small logo overlaid or a bit of print damage — but that redundancy also adds density.

This is a static code — it points wherever you set it and can't be edited afterwards. If you need to change the destination later or count scans, use a redirect URL you control, or the UTM QR Code Generator for campaign tracking.

FAQ

What size should I print it at?
The download is 320×320px, which prints cleanly up to a few inches across. A rough rule for scannability: the printed code should be at least a tenth of the distance people will scan it from — so a poster read from 2 metres wants a code around 20cm.
Do QR codes expire?
The code itself never expires. It keeps working as long as whatever it points to — a web page, for example — stays live at that address.
Can I change where it points after printing?
Not for a static code like this one. To keep that option, encode a short redirect URL you control and change the redirect target later.
Why won't my code scan?
Usually too small, too low-contrast (it needs dark-on-light with a light margin around it), too much data making it dense, or a blurry print. Regenerate with a shorter URL and print larger.
Is anything I enter sent to a server?
No. The QR code is generated locally in your browser — the text you type never leaves your device.
