Why ad character limits matter

Every ad platform enforces its own limits — and it's rarely one number. Most have a "visible" length where copy starts truncating with "See more" or an ellipsis, and a separate hard maximum the platform won't accept at all. Writing one line of copy and hoping it fits everywhere is how headlines get cut off mid-sentence in the wild.

This checker runs your copy against Google, Meta, LinkedIn, and X's current specs at once, so you can write one primary text, one headline, and one description, and immediately see where it gets clipped.

How to use this tool

1Type your primary text / body copy, headline, and description into the three fields above.
2Check the table — green means safe, amber means it'll truncate on that platform, red means it's over the hard limit and won't submit.
3Trim the copy for whichever platform is tightest, or write a shorter alternate version for that one.
4Re-check before you upload — limits get updated by each platform periodically.

What each status means

  • Safe — fits within the platform's recommended visible length; won't truncate on any placement
  • Will truncate — still accepted by the platform, but will get cut off with "See more" or an ellipsis on at least some placements
  • Over the hard limit — exceeds what the platform allows; it will be rejected or auto-trimmed on upload

FAQ

Do emoji count differently toward the limit?
Yes, on most platforms — a single emoji often counts as 2 characters instead of 1. This checker uses standard character counting, which is very close but can be off by a character or two on emoji-heavy copy.
Why doesn't Google Ads show a "will truncate" warning?
Google enforces its 30/90 character limits at input time — copy over the limit simply can't be saved, so there's no soft truncation zone the way Meta or LinkedIn have.
Do these limits change often?
Occasionally, usually a few characters at a time as platforms redesign ad placements. Worth a periodic re-check on evergreen ad copy.
Does this tool store what I type?
No. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is sent to or saved on our servers.
