GPA Calculator

Calculate your weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale from your courses and grades.

Course (optional)GradeCredits
4.00

Weighted GPA across 9 credits, on a 4.0 scale.

What this tool does

Calculates your weighted GPA on the standard 4.0 scale from a list of courses, their letter grades, and credit hours — the same calculation most US colleges use for an official term or cumulative GPA.

Everything is calculated in your browser — nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use this tool

1Add a row for each course. The course name is optional — only the grade and credits affect the result.
2Pick the letter grade and enter the credit hours (often 3 or 4 for a college course, 1 for many high-school courses).
3Add or remove rows as needed; the GPA updates as you go.
4For a cumulative GPA, enter every course from every term into the same list.

How it's calculated

Each letter grade converts to grade points on the 4.0 scale, those points are multiplied by the course's credit hours, the results are summed, and the total is divided by total credit hours:

GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits)

  • A / A− → 4.0 / 3.7
  • B+ / B / B− → 3.3 / 3.0 / 2.7
  • C+ / C / C− → 2.3 / 2.0 / 1.7
  • D+ / D / D− → 1.3 / 1.0 / 0.7
  • F → 0.0

This is an unweighted 4.0 scale. Schools that give extra weight to honors or AP/IB courses (a 5.0 for an A, say) will produce a higher number than this tool.

FAQ

Does this match my school's official GPA exactly?
It uses the 4.0 scale most US institutions use, but schools differ on honors/AP weighting, plus/minus values, rounding, and whether pass/fail or withdrawn courses count. Check your registrar's policy for an official figure.
How do I work out the GPA I need this term to hit a target?
Enter your existing courses to get your current cumulative GPA and total credits, then add placeholder rows for this term's courses and adjust their grades until the overall number reaches your target.
How are retaken courses handled?
Many schools replace the original grade with the retake, or average the two. This tool counts every row you enter, so include only the grades your school actually counts.
Do pass/fail courses affect my GPA?
Usually not — a Pass typically earns credit with no grade points and is left out of the GPA math. If that's your school's rule, don't add those courses here.
Is my grade data stored anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and cleared when you leave the page.
